And Our 2018 Show Is...

December 28, 2016

Over 100 people came to the Kiel Area Youth Theatre's annual "Reveal Party" on December 27 at Anchor Lanes in Elkhart Lake for the announcement of their show selection for the group's summer 2018 production, "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Jr."

The show follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Jr. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth.

The 2018 production will be led by Director Heather Winter, and she will be joined by Music Director Christine Clements and Choreographer Jessica Schrage to round out the creative staff for the show.

Auditions will be held on April 9 and 10 at the Kiel Middle School. Rehearsals will begin on May 14 and will be held Mondays through Thursdays until the performances, which will be July 13-15, and July 20-22 at the Castle Theater at Kiel High School.

The Kiel Area Youth Theatre is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which promotes and provides the opportunity for Kiel, Wisconsin area youth to participate in fun and positive theatrical experiences in order to share their creative talents and performance abilities with the community. With the assistance of many incredible volunteers, the enthusiasm and cooperation of wonderful parents and talented young actors, and the overwhelming support of the community, this organization has grown into a vehicle of the promotion of the arts and a sound establishment which will provide children enrolled in four-year-old kindergarten through eighth grade the chance to develop and showcase their artistic abilities and talents for the Kiel area for the foreseeable future.
